Mass Audubon

Based at the 400+ acre wildlife sanctuary in Worcester known as Broad Meadow Brook, Mass Audubon education staff work to "protect the nature of Massachusetts" by offering a wide variety of educational programs and services to schools, community groups, and the public.

Hiking / Camping

Cowdrey Nature Center

  • Lunenburg, MA
  • Offers flat trails, pine forest, bird watching, beaver dam, river crossings, open year round, geo-caching sites

Groton Town Forest

  • Groton, MA

Pearl Hill State Park

  • Townsend, MA
  • Offers camping, hiking, fishing, x-c skiing, boating, etc.

Leominster State Forest

  • Westminster, MA
  • Offers hiking, fishing, canoeing, swimming, and xc-skiing. No camping.

Willard Brook State Forest

  • Ashby and Townsend, MA (Rte. 119)
  • Offers camping, fishing, hiking, swimming, horseback trails, etc.
  • Often the destinations for the Webelos camping trip with the Boy Scouts

Mount Wachusett

  • Princeton, MA
  • Offers trails to the summit with 360* panoramic views. Many non-winter events/festivals where scouts can participate, take a chairlift to the top and hike down or vice-versa.

Mount Watatic

  • Ashby, MA
  • Offers a moderate climb and the summit has 270* panoramic views for miles. Can see Boston sky scrapers on a clear day.
